  • We are looking for a motivated, organised Leisure Assistant and Qualified Swimming Instructor to join our team at the 4 star Washington Central Hotel. The ideal candidate will have experience of helping and supporting leisure members both within a pool and gym environment. You will also have previous experience of swimming teaching, demonstrating your ability to progress swimmers through the learn to swim pathway. You will hold a current ASA Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Aquatics (or equivalent) and a current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. Holding a pool plant operators certificate would also be an advantage. In this role, the candidate will need to be very aware of health and safety issues and be an excellent communicator and have great customer service skills.

Main Duties

  • Act as first contact for all leisure visitors and swimming lessons, in person, on the phone and online.
  • Communicating with parents/guardians and leisure members.
  • Administer bookings, including taking bookings and payments for both leisure members and swimming lessons.
  • Ensure the smooth and timely running of swimming lessons and the facility during opening hours.
  • Set up / Take Down of Sports Equipment as required.
  • Undertake all tasks according to the Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Ensure that the safety and behaviour of the members and swimming lesson participants are controlled to prevent injury, misuse and damage to facilities.
  • Carry out daily, weekly and monthly building checks and housekeeping audits and complete relevant documentation.
  • Carry out general cleaning duties of the leisure facility, including changing rooms, toilets and external areas.
  • Handle cash and answer the main phone as required and provide cover for reception
  • Attend and maintain any relevant training / qualifications as requested by Management.
  • Undertaking any other duties which may reasonably be requested by management.


Upto 30 hours per week.

We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills and preferably similar experience, however full training will be given for the right candidate. The role involves serving customers, making drinks, preparing food, operating the till, clearing tables and general cleaning duties. Hourly rate dependent on experience however we will pay over minimum wage.

Working hours over 7 days a week including breakfast and day shifts – no evenings shifts
