Feel right at the heart of the great peaks with this easy walk for all abilities. It’s a really good introduction to walking in the Lake District and perfect for mountain bikers too. A true classic with Victorian tourists the Buttermere loop starts on the Western shore and follows the bridleway climbing slowly to Burtness Woods. It’s 6.7km in total, and should take you at a steady pace about 3 hours. If you’re walking with children we recommend going anti-clockwise, it starts off a little more sheltered, just in case the weather is inclement.

As you find your way back to the village look out for the tunnel carved out by a Manchester Mill owner in the nineteenth century. It’s a truly picturesque ramble and can look far wilder than it actually is, take plenty pics, carry a raincoat (just in case) and we’ll see you back at the hotel safely.
